Care and Share Session Volunteer

Community Resource

The group aims to offer a supportive and welcoming space for people with mild to moderate dementia, together with their families and carers.

Our Care and Share dementia support groups are a warm and welcoming place to socialise and make new friends for people with mild to moderate dementia, and their family and carers. We offer both the carer and family member with dementia a stimulating and varied programme of activities such as reminiscence, quizzes, crafts, and music sessions.

The Care and Share Group Volunteer will support our Session Facilitator by helping the group members feel welcomed, comfortable, and able to participate in the activities. This volunteering role gives volunteers the chance to get involved with a fun, social group and to support people in the local community that are facing challenges.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the room is ready for the group meeting and helping to clear everything away after the session
  • Assisting with the serving of refreshments
  • Supporting the carer and person with dementia by engaging with light social activities (for example, board games, arts & crafts etc)
  • Talking and listening to people with memory loss / dementia with their carers, and encouraging the group members to share their experiences where appropriate

About Community Resource

Community Resource is an independent charity established over 60 years ago to benefit people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. We are one of 38 Rural Community Councils operating throughout England funded by the Government, Local Authorities, Charitable Trusts, public donations and membership subscriptions. We aim to improve quality of life and to strengthen communities in the county. Our organisation has a strong local track record with funders for delivering a wide range of quality services and projects to local people. We are supported in our delivery through strong links and partnerships with the private sector and local businesses. Each year, we work with over 600 voluntary and community groups, offer support to 3,500 individual family carers and develop and deliver projects and services for a wide cross section of Shropshire\'s residents.
