VICTIM SUPPORT
Community Engagement Volunteers help us to engage our local communities to inform and educate them about crime and our work.
This role is:
-Public facing – will need to feel confident speaking to small and larger groups of people. However the majority of this will be carried out by the team.
-Occasional training is delivered outside of normal office hours
-Collect and review feedback following sessions.
Victim support values are Empowering, Inclusive, Collaborative & Independent
The charity deals with over one and a half million people affected by crime every year. Most of the work of supporting victims and witnesses is done by volunteers.
Behind the scenes, our staff provide training, direction and support to help volunteers do the front-line work of helping those in need. Victim Support help victims and witnesses in several ways. They provide emotional support to help victims cope with the often difficult experience of being a victim of crime or giving evidence in court. They give information which helps both victims and witnesses to understand what they\\\'ve been through, what their choices are going forward and how to deal with the complications of the criminal justice system.
The charity also offers practical help, this can be a simple as arranging home security or help filing in forms for compensation. But in other cases we might spend months, even years, helping people through the long and painful aftermath of a crime.
-The confidence to speak at local events in front of an audience
-Good communications skills
-Previous experience of being a victim of crime or of the criminal justice system
