Aim: To help people to use computers and other devices for their day to day life

Tasks and responsibilities may include any of the following:

·         One to one digital support – starting up devices, emails, searching internet, online safety, keeping in touch, documents and storage and photos.

·         Guiding people through the Learn My Way platform and following the stages of the Digital Support Programme

·         Running a social IT Club helping people with digital troubleshooting.

·         Listen sympathetically and help people to work out solutions to their learning problems.

Additional Responsibilities:

·         Understand the importance of the groups Health & Safety procedures.

·         Understand the importance of confidentiality & safeguarding vulnerable adults.

·         Be aware of the standards set by Shropshire Counciland the need to work to these standards at all times.

What skills do I need?

Skills:

• the ability to help and support people with IT learning and develop their skills and self-confidence.

• to listen sympathetically and help library users to work out solutions to their learning problems.

• To assist the library staff in supporting library users with ICT skills, offering increased opportunity for group and one to one coaching.

• The digital volunteer should be reliable and arrive to help on the dates and times agreed.

Training:

·         Every volunteer will receive our mandatory training – Introduction to the role, Access to Data Protection Act, Cyber-security, Safeguarding training, shadowing of the role, Health and Safety awareness.

·         Every volunteer will have access & be signposted to training which the group feels is appropriate for the role.

·         All volunteers will be supported by the Branch Manager and their skills and contribution to the group will be reviewed as stated in the Volunteer Agreement form.

Additional information:

·         Volunteers are covered by Shropshire Council’s public liability and personal accident insurance while working with us.

·         Volunteers have to be 18 or over. There is no upper age limit.

·         Travel expenses will be paid at the rate of 45p per mile.
