ESOL Volunteer

Shropshire Supports Refugees

Shropshire Supports Refugees was established in 2016 to bring relief and support to vulnerable families displaced by unrest in their home countries relocating to Shropshire.

Aa an ESOL volunteer you will provide support to the charity’s clients who require help with their English language learning. Volunteers will be flexible and start on an ad-hoc basis but will eventually build their client numbers to develop a weekly timetable. You will liaise with other ESOL volunteers, as well as staff to provide learners with the best possible assistance for their queries and needs in learning English.

This role has no set location, and it will be a mixture of assisting in local classes or providing 1 on 1 support to our clients in their home location- this will be discussed during the informal discussion.

About Shropshire Supports Refugees

Our History
Shropshire Supports Refugees (SSR) began as a welcome group for Refugee Action in 2016. Amanda Jones and a group of her friends started arranging collections of items for arriving families who were resettling in Shropshire under the governments VPRS.
Through a closed Facebook group Amanda set about coordinating the many offers of informal help, donations and friendship from local people.
In 2017, Shropshire Supports Refugees became a not for profit Community interest company and started to
promote awareness of the migration crisis and the needs of the refugee community in Shrewsbury and Shropshire.
Towards the end of 2021 SSR gained charity status and is now a registered CIO.
