Do you have some free hours on a Tuesday and wish to do something amazing for your community and yourself? Basically, we are looking for an extra hand to help with setting up, welcoming members, serving refreshments, washing up, helping with social activities and/or chatting to members.

Typical day:

10:00 welcome to the clients, tea and biscuits

10:30 gentle chair yoga

10:45 morning activity: usually crafts or games

12:00 lunch

12:30 afternoon activity: usually bingo (music/sounds/numbers) or dominoes

13:30 another cup of tea and socialising

14:00 time to head home !

We run a range of activities to stimulate our clients, including games, quizzes, seated exercises, crafts, bingo, dominos, seated bocce, as well as a two-course hot meal from Stans. Creativity and interaction are greatly encouraged, and our clients are the most lovely group of people you would ever want to meet. We always have some good laughs and a lot of fun. 

About St Martins Day Centre

St Martins Day Centre is a volunteer run charity serving the elderly of St Martins and surrounding communities. The Day Centre is open on Tuesdays every week from 10am till 2pm at the Cedar Close Community Centre in St Martins. We provide older people with both practical assistance and a chance to socialise and have plenty of fun, while providing a day of respite for their carers. Our clients are the best group of people you would ever want to meet. The volunteers, along with myself, are completely unpaid. We simply do it because we love it.

What skills do I need?

Whether you wish to stay a bit quieter and help set up and wash dishes or you'd rather be front and centre reading some poetry to the group, we have a need for you and you'll fit right in.

Details

St Martins Day Centre is open every Tuesday from 10am-2pm. It is helpful if volunteers can arrive 15-20 minutes early but even once a month or just 30 minutes in the morning or afternoon would mean so much to our clients. You’ll meet some lovely new people, and maybe even see some faces you already know. Why not come in and give it a try?
